Thank you for this Tim, there seems to be an unawareness of the level of addictiveness that these kids have, and unless the adult themselves become addicted their perception of their kids gaming is not realistic. Wonder what the addicted child's future will be like ......

This is a brilliant in the nutshell future representation - thank you, the future of MMORPG's are going to entail us doing real life quests ...... , so I think that they will do things that don't require too much effort (ie. do your shopping at PnP/tank petrol at Shell, next time you log on, the PnP/Shell receipt is crunched into your game (linked to PnP/Shell))and you get rellevant rewards, someone who spent R1000 has a higher chance of getting epics than someone who spent R30 :) .... or a choice to exchange it for ingame cash. I forsee that in game objects will cost more to buy in rl than rl stuff, an epic sword drops, and it can get sold on Bay for $20 000. THis has already happened as you have said Tim, murders have happened, and many other rl spill over from gaming. The only way these guys will survive, is too NOT lose their client base, and the way to do that is to infiltrate a persons real life, some of us hand it over with little persuasion :p ...... others will need more of a push :)

Thank you Tim for the historical and factual background, shocking as well. I did NOT realise that their were 500 million people on facebook :/ .... this does not compute!! Mark Zuckerberg won the Time Magazine Man of the Year award for 2010, this is not an easy award to get, you have to exceed and excell at all levels .... this one person has changed the lives of millions, now a person can see why he gets this award.

The supplier of the gaming industry/platforms/app games/servers .... reap billions of dollars every year, from people who are addicted, they rely on you becoming addicted, if you don't, they will loose their jobs.

My next question is, to what extent will they go to next, to hook more people?

I am addicted, to WoW, and a lesser extent to facebook, I have about 8000 hours of game play in the last five years, most probably more. On a psychological point of view, I would prefer to farm materials, than go out for dinner with friends, is this normal? healthy? .... the fact is my care box has slowly emptied over the last few years, I have become anti-social. A problem for people that want to be in my company, not a problem for me.

This issue is not blown out of prportion, the human race is only scratching the surface of where it will end up, for now only a few 100 million people have access to this platform, it will become our only mode of communication - bb post office, bb hugs and kisses.

There is a song that Faithless (genius) wrote many years ago, about people opting out of the real world and going to another space for escape, his world is music, mine is cyberspace, the words are as follows:

This is my church
This is where I heal my hurts
It's a natural grace
Of watching young life shape
It's in minor keys
Solutions and remedies
Enemies becoming friends
When bitterness ends
This is my church
This is where I heal my hurts
It's in the world I become
Contained in the hum
Between voice and drum
It's in the change
The poetic justice of cause and effect
Respect, love, compassion
This is my church
This is where I heal my hurts

A dillemma an escape from it all, a drug with no traces, let me in and swallow me whole, this is my world, this is where I live, this is where I heal my hurts

I can relate so much to the first part of your post. Being one person no matter where I am is something I aspire too and have become really good at.

Good to see you posting again, and I can't add much more but agree 100% with what you have said. The online world is really becoming as bad as the real one, and at times. Worse.

Reminds me of the good old comic. I can't come to bed right now, someone is wrong on the internet.

A brilliant non-biased review of possibly the best film of all time! :-)

Well done. I love your talkings about the Science Fiction part becoming plausable real life fact. I have always been very interested in this concept and absolutly love any Sci-Fi movie that adopts this method of thought. There is a great book you should get: http://www.amazon.com/Science-Fact-Fiction-Encyclopedia/dp/0415974607. It's amazing to see how many Sci-Fi technologies have actually come real, especially from Star Trek!

I strongly recommend to anyone to watch the movie in both 3D and 2D. The 3D although amazing in all aspects does slightly distract from the deep deep story of Avatar. I guess I'm not 100% atunded to 3D films yet. :-) Hey! Some people got motion sickness from DOOM! I'm allowed to get a headache and some eyestrain from 3D films!

Cheers

Tim, the sleepless nights will never end. One can only learn to cope with them at best. You need to first learn to respect and like yourself for who you are. Only recently I've learned to do so... Mass/weight, strength, disabilities, they all should not play a mental roll in the way you live your life. The physical aspects will most certainly have it's toll but being mentally fit to handle the strains and stress just makes everything so much more easier.

Trust me when I say I actually know what you are going through...

On a separate note, ever since meeting you, i've grown a massive respect for you and your your knowledge, intelligence and especially friendship. I regard very little people as true friends based on my hairy past but I am happy that I am in a position where I am able to offer my friendship to you and would be honored on it's acceptance...
