An odd anniversary…
Last night I celebrated an odd anniversary… I’ve survived one year in Johannesburg.
Why did I celebrate? Partly, it was a tongue in cheek celebration, poking fun at all the people that predicted my hasty return to the coastal life… And partly a celebration with the people I’ve met (and known from before) in this last year.
We met at McGinty’s in the Brightwater Commons in Randburg. My thanks to the people that arrived and celebrated with me:
- Matthew and Marti
- Gary and Kati
- JJ and Vanessa
- Rozz and Nick (and John, however briefly)
- Jacques and Jenny
- Louise and Lana
- Karl
- Pieter, Tania and their daughter, Zania
- Grant and Rika
- Jon and Elke
- Peter
Today, one year ago, I moved into the commune where I live now. A year down the line, it looks like I may be the only resident of the original batch that remains, the landlord having taken matters into his own hands to remove some unwanted elements.
Tempus fugit… time flies…

Have I ever told you that your blog hates me? It refuses to let me sign on ;)
Anyways, had an awesome time on Friday; was nice to put some faces to names. As for anyone that thinks you will go back to Cape Town I’d just like to say na na na na :D
Hey Tim. Sorry that Tams and I couldn’t make it on Friday night… we were still packing boxes and stuff at 3am on Saturday morning. Its awesome to hear you guys had a great night and I’m sad we missed it.
Weird.. I only got this article delivered from my RSS feeder thing today. Had a good time man, thanks for inviting us both. We need to see each other more often damnit, this once every few months is bull considering we live so close… perhaps over the festive period a bit, or you going away at all?
Hi Cousin
Congrats on your one year anniversary……hope you’ll have many more to come. Sorry we couldn’t be there to celebrate with you. Have you got plans for holiday period?
